Hello,

It'll depend on the status of your relationship. As your boyfriend has a "life partner" visa, I'll assume that you have a civil partnership that is equivalent to a French PACS. In this case it will only count as a "strong link" with France and is taken into consideration in a visa application. From what I gather the powers that be will also like for the two of you to have lived together for at least a year (with proof)before they grant you the visa.

I know it's really vague-I suggest you call your local consulate and ask them about your situation. It seems as if you might have a good case, but I'd suggest you cover your bases.

Hope this helps, and thanks for the comment!

Hi Douglas, what exactly are the requirements for the Visa Vie Privée et Familiale? My boyfriend is French. We met in London and started dating in Nov 2007. He then moved to South Africa in July 2008. He also obtained a life partner visa in South Africa, which allows him to work and live here until June 2011. I have been to France as a tourist in 2000, 2006 and Dec 2008. We are considering going to France at the end of the year for a year or two or until we get married, as my boyfriend studied cinema and job opportunities in SA in this field is scares. What type of visa will I be able to obtain to live and work in France?
